Attaching sources is the single best way to get precise, trustworthy answers from AI Chat. When you attach a source, the assistant reads that exact context - a filing, a transcript, a ticker, or your own document - instead of answering from general knowledge. This guide shows what you can attach and how.

How to attach a source
- Open AI Chat.
- In the composer, open the attachment menu.
- Choose what to attach: search for a ticker, pick a watchlist, select a filing or transcript, or choose a file from your research drive.
- Type your question and send. The assistant answers using the attached context.
Examples
- Summarize a 10-K: attach the latest 10-K for AAPL and ask, "List the top five risk factors in plain English."
- Compare a watchlist: attach your "Semis" watchlist and ask, "Rank these by revenue growth."
- Question your own research: attach a PDF you uploaded and ask, "What does this memo conclude about pricing?"
- Digest a call: attach an earnings transcript and ask, "What changed in guidance versus last quarter?"
Configure data sources and filters
Beyond per-message attachments, you can configure which data sources AI Chat draws on - for example, limiting to certain filings, news publishers, or date ranges - from the sources control in the composer. This is useful when you want answers constrained to a specific time window or document set.
Tips for reliable answers
- Attach the most specific source available (the exact filing beats "the company").
- Ask the assistant to cite where it found a claim.
- For anything you will act on, open the underlying filing or financials to confirm.
