Projects keep your AI Chat organized by grouping related conversations together - for example, all your research on one company, sector, or workflow. A project can carry custom instructions that apply to every chat inside it, so you do not have to repeat context each time. This guide shows how to set them up.
Why use projects
Without projects, conversations pile up in one list. With projects you can:
Keep all chats about a company or theme in one place.
Apply shared custom instructions (tone, focus, output format) to every chat in the project.
Switch context quickly between different research threads.
Company project
Create an NVDA research project
Open AI Chat, create a project named after NVIDIA, set instructions to prioritize the latest 10-Q and earnings call, then start chats inside it.
Create a project
Open AI Chat .
In the sidebar, create a new project and give it a name (for example, "Semiconductors").
Optionally add custom instructions describing how the assistant should respond in this project.
Start new chats inside the project; they inherit its instructions.
Good custom instructions
Custom instructions steer every chat in the project. Useful examples:
Primary sources
Keep Microsoft filings next to the project
While chats run in a project, open MSFT SEC filings and financials in another tab so you can verify every claim against the source.
"Always answer with sources cited and figures in a table."
"Focus on fundamentals and guidance; ignore short-term price action."
"Assume I am comparing companies for a long-term portfolio."
Example: a company deep-dive project
Create a project named after the company, e.g. "NVDA research".
Set instructions like "Prioritize the latest 10-Q and earnings call."
In separate chats, attach the filing , the transcript , and a watchlist of peers.
Combine with prompts Prompts + projects
Pair custom instructions with saved prompts
Use project instructions for tone and focus, then drop in reusable prompt templates for filing summaries and peer compares.
Pair projects with saved prompt templates so your most-used questions are one click away inside each project.
