Ownership data tells you who owns a company and how insiders are trading it. On Vantafin, the Insider Transactions tab shows Form 3, 4, and 5 filings for a stock, and ownership data shows the institutions holding it. You find these on a company profile. This guide explains what the data means and how to use it.
Insider transactions (Form 3/4/5)
Company insiders - officers, directors, and large shareholders - must report their trades to the SEC:

Open the Insider Transactions tab at /app/{TICKER}/insider-transactions (equities only) to review recent insider buys and sells. Clusters of insider buying or selling can be a useful signal to investigate further, though they are never conclusive on their own.
Institutional ownership
Institutional ownership shows the funds and firms that hold a stock. It helps you gauge:
- How widely held a company is.
- Whether large holders are concentrated or diversified.
For ETFs and funds, profiles instead surface the fund's holdings - the securities the fund owns.
How to use ownership data in research
Combine ownership signals with the rest of the profile:
- Check recent insider transactions for notable buying or selling.
- Cross-reference against the latest SEC filings and earnings transcript for context.
- Ask AI Chat to summarize recent insider activity by attaching the ticker.
Pull ownership data via API
Developers can access institutional ownership, ETF/fund holdings, and insider transactions through the REST API under the Ownership and Insider Transactions endpoints.
